Here in the southern Serengeti (Serengeti National Park is in Tanzania, in east Africa), it was the start of the rainy season. The rainy season brings grass, which in turn brings migrating grazing animals, such as these wildebeest (also known as gnu) and zebra, who eat the grass. The presence of these grazers in turn brings the predators, such as lion, cheetah, and leopard. This annual migration is huge, involving hundreds of thousands of gnu and zebra. This photo shows just a small portion of a line of migrating gnu which extended as far as the eye could see in both directions - from horizon to horizon.
